New England Pumpkin Pie


1 1/2 cups pumpkin

2/3 cup brown sugar

1/2 tsp ginger

1/2 tsp cinnamon 

1/2 tsp cloves

2 eggs

1 1/2 cup milk

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup cream


Steam and strain the pumpkin

Mix the ingredients as listed 

Bake in 1 crust for about 3/4 hour using a hot oven for the first 10 minutes at 450 then reduce the heat to 350

Sweet Potato Surprise 


2 cups dices sweet potatoes (about 2 medium sized)

1 egg beaten

1/2 tsp salt

Dash of pepper

8 Marshmellows

1/2 cup crushed corn flakes or bran flakes


Boil and peel potatoes, put thru dicer.  

When partly cool add eggs, salt & pepper.  

If mixture is too dry add a little milk.  


Flour hands if necessary, form 8 round balls with Marshmellow's inside.

Roll in bran flakes or corn flakes.  Fry in hot crisco at 375 until brown, drain on soft paper.

Depression Cookies


Cream 1/2 cup lard, bacon grease, or butter

with 1 cup sugar, white sugar or brown sugar or 1/2 and 1/2.

Add 1 egg and 1/2 cup milk then 1/2 cup or more of raisins.

1 tsp lemon extract

1 1/2 cup rolled oats

1 1/2 cup flour mixed with 1 1/2 tsp baking power

3/4 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon 


If eggs are scarce, leave out and add 1 tbsp of cornstarch to flour.


Drop on lightly greased pan and bake at 375 for 12 minutes.


Sarah's Peanut Butter Cookies

(That will melt in your mouth)


1/2 cup Peanut Butter

1 1/2 cup Flour

3/4 tsp Baking Soda

1/4 tsp Salt

1/2 cup Crisco

1/2 tsp Baking Powder

1/2 cup Sugar

1/2 cup Brown Sugar

1 Egg


Mix cookie dough and place in refrigerator for 3 hours


Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes 

(9 minutes is perfect)
